Took me 8 months to realize my compost bin needed more browns
I started composting in my tiny kitchen last January and kept getting this gross smell no matter what I did. I tried different food scraps and even bought a fancy countertop bin from Target but nothing worked. Finally figured out last week that I was adding way too many greens and not enough shredded paper and cardboard. Has anyone else dealt with a smelly compost and taken forever to figure out the fix?

Right there with you on the smell problem. It's like most things in life, you think the fix is gonna be something complicated or expensive but really it's just the simple basics you skipped. I did the same thing with my garden plants last summer, kept buying different fertilizers and fancy watering systems when all they needed was more sun and less water. Shredded cardboard is a life changer for compost, took me almost a full year to figure that out too. Sometimes you just gotta step back and stop overcomplicating stuff.

Oh man, I've been there. Took me almost a year to realize I was basically making compost soup instead of actual compost.
