Tried bokashi composting in my 400 sq ft studio and ended up with mold problems
I thought bokashi would be perfect for my small apartment since it claims to be smell-free and compact. After three weeks of using a 5 gallon bucket under my sink, I noticed white fuzz growing on the bucket lid and a sour smell I couldn't ignore. Turns out the airtight seal wasn't as tight as I thought, and moisture was seeping out. I had to scrap the whole batch and scrub my cabinet with vinegar. Now I'm back to a simple worm bin on my balcony, and it's working much better for my space. Has anyone else had trouble with bokashi systems in humid apartments?

...and that mold on the bucket lid would have sent me straight through the roof, I can't even handle a little dust without freaking out. You said you were in a 400 sq ft studio, right? That is basically a closet with a sink, so any moisture smell would just take over everything you own, including your clothes probably. I get why you'd try bokashi (the hype is real about no smell), but it sounds like your place's humidity just worked against the whole airtight thing from day one. Honestly, I'm kind of impressed you had a worm bin on a balcony as a backup plan, most people would just give up on composting indoors altogether after that.
