Visited my old building's basement and the compost bins are gone
Went back to the apartment complex I lived in back in 2017, just to see the old neighborhood. The landlord who ran the place then had two big plastic bins in the basement for food scraps, residents just tossed stuff in and he hauled it to a community garden about 2 miles away. Now there's a fancy in-unit electric composter in every kitchen, but nobody actually uses them, they just sit collecting dust. I asked the new manager and she said people found the bins too smelly and messy, but I remember it being fine if you froze scraps first. Has anyone else watched a good shared system get replaced by tech that nobody bothers with?
