Warning: My kitchen smelled weird for a week after I tried bokashi composting
I got this bokashi bucket kit online for $30 thinking it would be a game changer for my tiny Chicago apartment. But I made the mistake of not draining the liquid every 2 days like the instructions said. After day 5 my whole kitchen smelled like pickled garbage and I had to dump the whole thing outside. Anyone else have a hard time keeping up with the draining schedule?

Wait, is it REALLY that bad though? I've forgotten to drain mine for like a week and yeah it got a little funky but nothing a quick spray of vinegar couldn't fix. Seems like you might've just gotten a bad batch or something.

Wait have you ever actually looked inside the trap after a week though? That brown sludge gets thick and starts smelling like a dead animal. Vinegar just masks it for a day or two then it comes back worse. I had a friend who left hers for two weeks and she ended up with fruit flies breeding in the drain. Little bastards were everywhere. And the gunk that came out when she finally cleaned it looked like something from a horror movie. So yeah maybe a week isn't end of the world but you're playing with fire.
