Why does everyone in my building use coffee grounds but never balance them with browns?

I swear I see bags of coffee grounds in the compost bin every single day, but nobody ever adds shredded paper or cardboard. Last week I opened the bin and it smelled like a wet dog that rolled in old espresso grounds. I had to haul 5 gallons of my own shredded junk mail down to the basement just to fix the balance. Has anyone else dealt with a whole building full of people who only add greens and ignore the carbon side?

Ugh, the wet coffee ground smell is the worst, just sneak a bag of shredded paper in there.

I get that so much, the wet coffee grounds just hit different in a bad way. Especially when you open the bin and that warm, humid smell just smacks you right in the face. I’ve tried rinsing the grounds out first but then it just makes the trash can soggy and even more gross. The shredded paper trick actually does help soak up the moisture a little, but you gotta make sure it's not the glossy kind or it just sits there. It’s such a small thing but it really bugs me too.
