After my freezer stopped making ice, I discovered a frozen water line. Hairdryer did the trick.

Totally see that happening. It's like when you use a quick fix that doesn't let things breathe properly. I've seen it with electronics and even in old houses where sealing one spot just pushes the moisture somewhere else. You solve one problem but end up with a moldy surprise down the road. Shortcuts always seem to come back around.
