Customer told me I was using too much silicone sealant on their fridge line repair

Back in March a customer in Alexandria watched me seal their ice maker line and said I was being wasteful. They were right though I was laying down a thick bead like I always did. After watching them show me how a thin even layer does the same job I cut my silicone usage by about 60 percent. Has anyone else had a straightforward tip from a homeowner that actually improved your work?

Honestly, I double my silicone usage now just to feel like I'm getting my money's worth, even if it drips everywhere. @the_sage's buddy story hits close to home since I still find globs of dried silicone in my tool bag from old jobs.

That's a good point about being wasteful with silicone lol." I had a buddy who does appliance repairs and he told me a story kind of like this. He was fixing a washing machine for this older lady and she straight up told him he was using way too much thread locker on the bolts. He was about to just brush it off but she showed him a little video she found online that proved the stuff works better with just a tiny drop. He said he felt stupid at first but now he uses like half the amount he used to and the repairs hold just fine. Sometimes the homeowner just knows something from personal experience that we miss because we're stuck in our routine.
