Every other range I work on has the wrong burner cap alignment
I do a lot of service calls in the Denver area and I keep seeing ranges where someone put the burner caps on backwards or off-center. It's not just a looks thing either - it messes up the flame pattern completely and people complain about uneven heating. I had a customer last week who said her oven was broken but it was just the front left cap rotated 45 degrees. The flame was shooting sideways instead of wrapping around the pan. Do you guys take the extra 30 seconds to show homeowners how the little tabs line up? Or am I the only one who notices this on every call?

Respectfully, I see it a little different. The little tabs are nice and all but a lot of these burner caps are just cheap stamped metal and they warp over time (especially on the older Whirlpool models). So even if you show someone how to line it up perfectly today, next week after they clean it or the oven gets hot again, that cap might not sit right no matter what they do. Plus I've run into plenty of ranges where the tabs themselves are worn down or broken off completely and then you're just guessing. I think a better use of those 30 seconds is just teaching them how to check the flame after they put the cap back on rather than getting hung up on the alignment. If the flame looks good and the pan heats even then I call it a win, you know?

Totally agree, checking the flame afterwards is way more practical than fussing with tabs that'll just shift again.
