Found a nasty trick with GE washer drain pumps last week
I was at a customer's house in Queens fixing a GE washer that wouldn't spin. Pulled the drain pump and found a kids sock wedged in there, but what got me was the rubber impeller was half melted. Turns out if the pump runs dry for like 5 minutes straight, the friction can warp the housing. I popped a new pump in and it ran smooth, but I told the guy to check for clogs every 3 months. Has anyone else seen heat damage on these pumps or was this a fluke?

Not rare at all, dry run kills those pumps fast.

Dry run drives up that initial hype which is way more important than long term gains honestly. Look at the last three hyped project launches, all had dry runs that pushed prices up 40-60% in the first hour and early flippers walked away with real money. Sure it tanks after but that spike is where the smart money gets out, not holding through the dump.
