Shoutout to the guy at the parts counter who told me to check the drain pump filter first
Had a customer in Phoenix with a front loader that wouldn't drain. I was ready to pull the whole pump assembly. The guy at the local parts house said, 'Before you order anything, just check the filter. I see it all the time.' I was skeptical but did it. Sure enough, a kid's sock was jammed in there. Cleared it in five minutes. Anyone else get a simple tip that saved a ton of work?

Ugh, I have to disagree. That kind of advice is why DIYers mess stuff up worse. Checking the filter is the absolute first step in the manual, it's not some secret hack. If a "pro" was ready to pull the whole pump without doing basic checks, maybe they shouldn't be working on it. That parts guy just saved them from their own lazy diagnosis. It's not a cool tip, it's just doing the job right the first time.

Seriously, it's wild how often people skip the simple stuff. I watched a neighbor replace a whole starter on his mower when it was just a corroded battery cable, like the manual literally says check connections first. That parts guy wasn't giving a tip, he was just stopping a huge waste of time and money.
