That one call where the old lady showed me her repair manual from 1978
I went out to fix a dryer in Oak Park last Tuesday, and this 80 year old woman pulls out a spiral bound notebook with handwritten diagrams and part numbers from when her husband serviced the same machine. She told me, 'He passed ten years ago, but I keep this in case you young folks get stuck.' I ended up spending an extra 20 minutes just talking with her about how she learned all the terms. Has anyone else had a customer who knew more about their appliance than you did?

That old lady with the repair manual is awesome. I had a guy show me a whole binder he made for his 1980s fridge, complete with his own troubleshooting flowcharts.

Is it really that big a deal though? I mean, sure, it's a nice story, but 20 minutes of your day because some old lady has a notebook. Most of those diagrams are probably outdated anyway. I've seen dudes with binders who still can't figure out why their ice maker leaks. The real test is if she could actually fix the thing herself, not just talk about it.
