Isn't that how every hobby project goes when someone's been doing it 40 years?

@robinc66 I gotta disagree a bit on this one. Ive been restoring old motorcycles for about 25 years now, and not every project follows that pattern. Some of them are just a quick fix and youre done, no endless rabbit hole. The real factor is usually how much patience you have for trial and error. In my experience, the guys whove been at it for decades either get really good at picking the low hanging fruit or they just enjoy the process enough to tolerate the setbacks. Your mileage may vary, but Ive seen plenty of 40 year veterans bail on a project when it stopped being fun. So I think the hobby itself varies, not just the timeline.
