Changed my mind about pottery shards after a dig in rural Oregon

I used to think broken pottery was boring compared to arrowheads or tools. But at this site near the John Day River last spring, a tiny painted shard with a zigzag pattern turned out to be from a 4,000 year old trade network. Has anyone else had a find totally shift what you focus on?

Started tagging everything by region patterns after that. @hugo_gonzalez68 pushed me to look closer.
