Ground-penetrating radar skeptic no more after that field school in Ohio
I spent 8 years thinking GPR was just expensive guesswork, especially after watching a survey team miss a whole trash pit in Kentucky. Last summer I volunteered on a dig near Chillicothe and the operator let me watch the live screen while we walked a grid. A dark blob showed up at about 1.5 meters and I figured it was a root, but they dug it anyway and pulled out a full 18th century clay pipe bowl. That one hit made me read up on how soil moisture and frequency settings affect the readings. Now I'm saving up for a used GPR unit for my own site survey work. Anyone else had a tool they swore was useless until a real field test proved them wrong?
