Hot take: the new dating on that Pompeii bread loaf is a bigger deal than the fancy murals they keep finding.

I saw a talk in Chicago where they said the charred bread found in a bakery oven gives us a real clock for the eruption, but my buddy thinks focusing on everyday stuff misses the grand story of the city's art and politics, so what's more important for understanding a place?

Honestly, that bread tells us what people actually did that morning. The murals show what they wanted to be.

Yeah, it's like that everywhere. My social media feed is all these perfect vacation photos, but my camera roll is just me making coffee and walking the dog. The grocery list on my fridge tells the real story of my week, not the highlight reel I post online. We're all living in that gap between the mural and the bread.

Totally feel this, it hits so close to home. My phone is full of blurry pictures of my messy desk and half eaten snacks, but I'll post the one nice sunset pic from the whole month. That gap is where real life happens, for sure, all the boring stuff between the cool moments we bother to share.
