That moment at the Sutton Hoo exhibit that changed how I dig

I was at the British Museum last summer looking at the Sutton Hoo helmet and realized I've been using way too heavy of a trowel for fine work. A volunteer docent mentioned they use dental picks for the delicate stuff and it clicked. Has anyone else switched tools after seeing a museum display?

My dentist actually gave me some old tools, works great on clay.

@jade_lane19 totally get that, I actually did the same thing after seeing the Terracotta Warriors in London. The detail on those fingers made me swap my heavy trowel for a set of sculpting tools from an art store. Now I can actually feel the soil shift instead of just gouging it out. That volunteer docent was right, dental picks are a game changer for tiny bones and pottery shards. What kind of site are you working on that the clay holds up so well?
