Vent: My brush slipped and scratched a Roman brooch I'd been cleaning for 2 hours
I was working at my kitchen table in Portland last Thursday, using a soft toothbrush on a copper alloy brooch from a local field, when my hand jerked and left a deep scratch right across the enamel. Has anyone else had a clumsy moment like this, and do you have a go-to method for buffing out small marks without doing more damage?

Oh man, that's rough... I've been there. One time I was cleaning a silver belt buckle and my hand slipped with a soft brush and left a big swirl mark right across the face. I ended up using a very fine jeweler's rouge on a felt wheel at the lowest speed... just a light pass or two did the trick without taking off more detail. For enamel I'd be extra careful though, maybe try a tiny bit of polishing compound on a q-tip first to see how it reacts.
