A random guy at the car wash told me to stop using dish soap on my truck

Honestly I thought he was just some know-it-all trying to lecture me. I had been using Dawn on my F-150 for like 3 years because it was cheap and cut grease fast. Well after about 6 months of following his advice and using a proper pH balanced car soap I noticed the clear coat stopped looking cloudy. Tbh he was totally right and I feel dumb for ignoring him so long. Has anyone else gotten good advice from strangers at weird places like that?

My 2003 Tacoma's paint has been fine with dish soap for 8 years and looks better than most newer trucks I see.

Oh man, @the_piper you might be getting lucky with your specific paint or climate, but dish soap actually strips wax and sealants over time. It's fine if you're okay with reapplying protection after every wash, but most people don't realize it's not gentle on clear coats. Just something to watch for if you ever start noticing it looking dull.
