Appreciation post: The local hardware guy fixed my stupid chain link gate in 3 minutes
I spent 2 hours last weekend fighting with a sagging chain link gate. Couldn't get the tension bar back in place for the life of me. Finally drove over to Anderson's Hardware on Main Street and the old guy there just grabbed a pair of pliers and twisted a different link. He said I was pulling the wrong direction the whole time. Has anyone else had a random local shop save them from a dumb DIY mistake?

Spent twenty minutes yesterday trying to open a pickle jar before my neighbor walked over and twisted it once.

Gotta push back a little here. That guy didn't really "save" you, he just knew one trick you didn't. You still did the hard work of driving over there, buying the parts, and trying to fix it yourself. Local shops are great, but give yourself some credit for at least trying.
