Got a whole tour of a historic house for free because I asked about their plumbing

Last month in Charleston I popped into this old mansion just to ask about their exposed copper pipes and the docent got so excited she walked me through all 3 floors for an hour. She even showed me the servant stairwell and a hidden cistern in the basement. Has anyone else gotten way more than they paid for by just asking a random local about something weird?
