Hot take: That $60 waterproof phone pouch I bought was a total scam
I grabbed one of those pouches at a gas station near Myrtle Beach before hitting the waves. First time out, my phone got fried even though I sealed it right. Water got in through the cheap zipper strip. Anyone else get burned by these things?

Man, I feel your pain. That "sealed it right" part really hit home because I did the exact same thing. Bought one of those pouches at a beach store in Florida, thought I was being smart. First time I took it in the water, I saw a little fog inside and knew I was done. My phone was toast before I even dried off. Your mileage definitely varies with those things, but I'm pretty sure they're all junk unless you spend real money.

@evannelson I had the same experience with a cheap pouch, but I switched to a dry bag meant for kayaking and haven't had issues since. It's a simple ziplock style, cost maybe $15, and I just test it with a paper towel inside before trusting it with my phone.
