I finally saw how bad the crowds at the Blue Grotto have gotten

Went back to Capri last month for the first time in five years. The line for the boat ride into the cave was over two hours long, and there were at least 15 other boats waiting inside, all blaring guides on loudspeakers. It used to be a quiet, quick trip you could do in a morning. Has anyone found a different time of year or a less-known spot nearby that still feels like the old experience?

Two hours and loudspeakers? That sounds like a theme park line, not a magical cave. They've really ruined the vibe.

I went to Carlsbad Caverns last year and the key is getting the first tour slot of the day. We showed up at 7:45 AM, bought tickets for the 8:15 self-guided walk, and had the Big Room almost to ourselves for a solid hour. The loudspeaker announcements don't start until later, once the big crowds roll in. That early morning quiet makes all the difference.
