I finally stopped asking for directions in Bogota after one trick

Kept getting lost around La Candelaria until a cab driver told me to use the church bells, every neighborhood has a different tone and you can tell where you are by ear. I tested it for 3 days straight and it worked every time. Anyone else pick up weird local navigation hacks like this?

Ha, close but not quite. The bells in La Candelaria are all tuned to the same pitch range, they just sound different because of the towers and where you're standing. The real trick is the timing, they ring on different schedules depending on the parish. Still a solid hack though, just don't rely on it past 9pm when most of them go quiet.
