I tried the big chain repair shop vs a local guy for my Honda's brakes

I needed brake pads on my 2012 Civic last month so I went to Midas first and they quoted me $450 for just the front pair. A local mechanic named Dave down the street did both axles for $220 including the rotors. Am I crazy for thinking the big shops are just ripping people off now?

Dude that $450 quote is insane, I had almost the exact same thing happen with my 2010 Corolla. Midas wanted $380 for just the front pads and I laughed and went to this little shop run by a guy named Mike and he did all four corners for $260 with parts. Big shops have crazy overhead and they know most people just pay without shopping around. Your local guy Dave is probably running a one man show with low rent and that's why he can do it for half the price. I'll never go back to a chain again after that experience.
