I used to ask my hotel concierge for restaurant tips, now I just check the local subreddit

A couple years back, I'd always go straight to the front desk when I landed somewhere new, like in Austin. I figured they knew the real spots. Then I noticed their suggestions were always the same three crowded, pricey places. Last trip, I searched the city's subreddit instead and found a thread from six months ago where locals were arguing about the best breakfast tacos. I followed that and ended up at a tiny counter spot that wasn't even on the map. How do you guys find the real local info when you travel now?

Totally feel this, I did the exact same thing in New Orleans. The hotel list was all tourist jazz clubs on Bourbon Street. I mean, I searched the subreddit and found this whole debate about where to get a real muffuletta, not the sad hotel cafe version. Ended up in this grocery store deli that was packed with locals at lunch. It was way cheaper and actually felt like the city.

Love finding those local spots that feel real. The hotel lists always miss the actual vibe of a place. Glad you got the real deal instead of the tourist version.
