My old way of finding good spots in a new town just fell apart on me

I was in Spokane for a weekend last month and my usual plan totally failed. For years, I'd just walk into a local diner or coffee shop, sit at the counter, and ask the person working there for their favorite place to eat or a cool park to check out. It worked every time. This trip, I went into a place downtown and the guy just stared at his phone, pointed at a laminated list of 'local attractions' on the wall, and went back to scrolling. It felt so disconnected. I ended up wandering around for an hour before I found a decent sandwich place by pure luck. It made me miss the real, quick chats that used to give you the good stuff. Has anyone else noticed it's harder to get a genuine local tip these days?

Sounds like that guy's local tip was to leave him alone.

Had a mate who kept pushing advice about my dog and I just stopped asking for tips altogether. Works a treat when you need a break from the unsolicited stuff.
