Question about that "local tip" thread on food spots in Barcelona
I was scrolling through the Ask The Locals board last night and saw this long thread about hidden food spots in Barcelona. Someone posted about a tapas place off La Rambla that they said was "life changing" and had been a local secret for 20 years. But then like 5 people chimed in saying it was actually a tourist trap that got bought out 3 years ago and now charges €18 for patatas bravas. That really made me wonder how often these "local tips" are just outdated info or even fake hype from owners themselves. I mean, I've fallen for that before when I visited Austin and went to a barbecue spot that locals swore by online, but it was just a line of tourists like me. Has anyone else here fact-checked a recommendation from this forum and found it was totally wrong?

Yeah that whole thread felt shady the more I read into it.

Honestly, that whole thing felt off from the start. Tbh, the more I scrolled through it the less sense it made. Ngl, I think people just got caught up in the drama without checking the facts. The whole tone of it was weird too, like someone was trying too hard to make it seem legit. Glad I wasn't the only one who noticed.
