Spent 3 hours looking for a gas leak that was just a loose fitting

Had a call last Tuesday in a townhouse where the homeowner smelled gas near their furnace. Checked every joint with soap bubbles, pulled the manifold apart, even borrowed my buddy's electronic sniffer. Nothing showed up. Finally gave up and called the gas company. Their guy came out, tightened one union on the supply line with a wrench, and the smell was gone in 5 minutes. Felt like an idiot. Has anyone else wasted way too much time on something that simple?

Used to skip the simple stuff but that's all I check now.

Hate to admit it but you're right. Spent all that time overcomplicating things when the basics were all I really needed. Now I'm going back to old notes and smacking my forehead wondering what I was thinking.
