That guy at the hardware store insisted I use teflon tape on every pipe fitting even when the package said not to
He spent 15 minutes convincing me to wrap it on a compression fitting, then I got home and the instructions literally said do not use tape, has anyone else had a know-it-all clerk give bad advice that cost you $30 in parts?

Right? That 15 minute lecture should have been my first red flag. Sounds like he was trying to upsell you on his own personal gospel of pipe tape.
