The bartender in Boise poured my beer and gave me a 90 second lesson on local water
Last Thursday I stopped into a dive bar on 8th Street in Boise and ordered a lager, and the bartender asked where I was from before he even poured it. When I said Phoenix, he grabbed a glass, filled it from the tap, dumped it, and poured me a fresh one, saying the first pull sits in the line too long for anyone who knows what they're drinking. I always thought that was a myth bar guys told to look busy, but I sat there for an hour and watched him do it for every single tourist and not one local. It was such a small thing, but it made me realize the guy behind the bar usually knows the town better than any app or guidebook ever will. Has anyone else had a local just hand them the right answer before they even asked the question?
