The farmer's market strawberry stand in Portland flipped my berry game around

Last Saturday I grabbed a $6 basket at the market by the river, and the smell hit me before I even got home. Turns out those tiny, ugly berries had way more flavor than the perfect ones from the grocery store, and now I'm wondering why I ever cared about size or color. Has anyone else found that the imperfect produce actually tastes better, or am I just lucky that day?

Wait, weren't those “ugly” berries probably just picked at a different time or from a different farm than the ones you compare them to at the store? The grocery ones sit in cold storage for days, so you're really comparing fresh fruit to old fruit, not imperfect to perfect.
