The old IH tractor finally gave out on me last week

I was out plowing the back field near Laramie on Tuesday when the engine started knocking real bad and then just died. Turns out a rod went through the block after 40 years of hard use. Anybody know a good place to find a replacement engine block for a 1970s Farmall?

My neighbor out on County Road 12 actually salvaged a good block from a 1970 Farmall 140 last spring, so I used to think you had to go through a dealer, but after watching him rebuild that old engine, I'd try calling around to local tractor salvage yards first. Your mileage may vary depending on what specific model you have, but the 300 series blocks from that era are pretty common and usually half the price of a remanufactured one. Give it a shot, I've seen good results with that approach.

Yeah robin's right, salvage yards are your best bet for that old iron.
