A guy at the Griffith Observatory told me to just look at the moon with my eyes first

This was maybe ten years ago, I was there with my new camera trying to get a shot of the moon. I was all set up, messing with settings, and this older guy next to me just said, 'You know, you should just look at it for a minute before you try to take its picture.' So I did, and he was right. I was so focused on the gear I forgot to actually see it. Now I always take a second to just look before I even touch my camera. Anyone else have a simple piece of advice that stuck with them like that?

What a great story. I had a painter tell me something similar at a garden show once. She said to put my phone away and just watch how the light moved across the petals for a full five minutes. It changed how I see color now.

Honestly that's such a good point. We're always trying to capture stuff on our phones instead of just seeing it. I tried that with my coffee in the morning sun once, just watching the steam move. It sounds silly but you really do notice more.

Wow, I used to think that was cheesy but it totally works.
