I always thought stacking multiple exposures was cheating, then I tried it on a nebula shot last night

Yo honestly I had the same thing happen to me with HDR on landscapes. Felt like I was cheating the system by taking 3 different shots and mashing them together. But then I realized cameras can't see the full range of light like our eyes do so why not help them out a little bit? Same logic applies to stacking astro shots honestly. Your camera sensor is just trying to collect enough photons to make a decent image and stacking is basically just giving it more time without the noise. I remember spending like 4 hours trying to get one perfect single exposure of the moon and it still looked garbage compared to what I can do now with 20 frames stacked in 20 minutes. It's not cheating it's just using the tools we have to work around the limits of the hardware.

Seems like a weird thing to get worked up about either way.
