Just blew $80 on a 'light pollution filter' that made my Milky Way shots look worse

The sales pitch said it would cut out city glow, but all it did was give everything a weird green tint and kill the natural star colors. Has anyone actually had good results with these things, or is it all hype?

Got the same filter last year, had the exact green tint problem. They work better for specific light types like old streetlights, not general city glow. What kind of lights are near your shooting spot?

Yeah, that green tint is the worst. Those filters are pretty hit or miss depending on your exact light situation.

What lights are you dealing with? @richard_wells59 is totally right about the streetlight thing. I tried one of those filters near my place where we have those bright white LED street lamps and it looked awful, just a muddy green mess. But then I tested it a few blocks over under the old orange ones and it actually worked pretty well. It's so frustrating that you almost need a different filter for every block in the city.
