Noticed something weird at the Grand Canyon overlook last week

I was at Mather Point just after sunset and realized how many people were staring at their phones instead of the stars. It got me wondering if anyone else has found a spot where the light pollution is low enough to actually get decent photos without driving 2 hours out?

decent photos" is doing a lot of work there man. I was at Mather Point last summer and honestly the whole "people on phones" thing is kinda whatever. Its dark and cold and most tourists are just killing time waiting for their group to move. You can get decent shots of the Milky Way right from that overlook if you just wait til like 10pm and use a tripod. The light dome from the village is annoying but its not like you're trying to shoot pro astro photos. Its a tourist spot, people are gonna be on their phones.

Try visiting the South Rim at 3am on a weekday for completely different vibes.
