Took me 18 months to figure out my telescope's finder scope was mounted upside down

I kept wondering why every photo of M31 had the core in a different spot than my viewfinder, then a kid at a star party casually mentioned it and I felt like a total idiot, anyone else have a dumb setup mistake that took forever to catch?

I used to roll my eyes at people who said to check the basics first. Now I triple check everything before I even turn it on.

Tripped over my own feet reading this! I swear the universe has a way of making the little stuff blow up at the worst possible moments. Like last week I spent an hour troubleshooting a display issue and it turned out the power cable was just loose. Felt like such a clown but hey, at least I caught it before calling in the pros. Now I'm the guy checking cords and flipping switches ten times before I even breathe on anything.
