Tried stacking 200 photos of the moon with my phone and a $20 tripod

I used a 3-second delay on my shutter to avoid shake and stacked them in a free program called Autostakkert. The final image was sharper than anything I got from my expensive camera lens alone. Anybody else find that cheap gear plus free software beats the expensive stuff sometimes?

Ha, man that's way too organized for me. I tried stacking moon photos once with my phone and a Walmart tripod that wobbled if I sneezed. Ended up with 198 blurry images of what looked like a smudgy pancake. I guess the gear doesn't matter when the user is a klutz with zero patience. But honestly, that's awesome you got it to work. I probably just need to learn how to use the free stuff right instead of blaming my shaky hands.

Those free stacking programs just hide flaws that expensive lenses would have shown you right in the first place.
