Changed my mind about those cheap paint mixing cups

I used to grab the 50 cent plastic cups from the supply house because I thought a cup is a cup, right? Well, I had a big job last week mixing a three-stage pearl and the cheap cup started to soften from the reducer. The mix ratio got messed up and I had to redo the whole base coat, which cost me about $150 in wasted paint and two hours. I switched to the heavy duty ones that cost around $2 each and the difference is night and day, they don't react with anything. Has anyone else found a small tool that seemed like a waste but actually saved you a ton of trouble?

Used to think all drop cloths were the same. Ruined a client's hardwood with a cheap one that leaked. Now I only buy the heavy canvas ones.

Feel your pain on that one. Learned the same lesson with cheap masking tape that bled through on a clear coat.

Ugh, why do we all have to learn this the hard way? I once used that bargain tape on a window trim and ended up with a pink ghost line that looked like a bad tattoo. Took me three times as long to fix it than if I'd just bought the good stuff. Guess I'm a slow learner, lol.
