Learned a hard lesson about dust masks at a shop in Nashville

I used to just grab any cheap dust mask off the shelf for sanding. Last month I had this nasty cough that wouldn't quit after a big job. Turned out my N95 wasn't even sealed right around my beard. Spent $60 on a half-face respirator with proper cartridges and now I actually check the fit every time. Anyone else had trouble getting masks to seal right?

Same here, I used to think any mask would do but that cough changed my mind.

3M 8210s are the only ones I buy now. @maxm63 I was the same way until I got sick at a convention last year. That N95 saved me from getting way worse than I did. The fit and filter rating actually matters way more than I used to think.
