My shop foreman told me to stop using filler primer on plastic bumpers

Three months ago my foreman said I was wasting time with filler primer on plastic bumpers. He said just scuff and shoot with adhesion promoter. I argued with him for a week because I had always used filler primer to hide minor texture. Finally tried his way on a 2018 Honda Civic bumper last Tuesday. The finish came out glass smooth and I cut 20 minutes off my repair time. Anyone else have a boss who was right about something you were sure was wrong?

Had a buddy who spent YEARS wet sanding every single paint job because his first mentor told him that's the only way. He was convinced anyone using a DA sander was just being lazy. Then his new shop made him try the DA on a metallic silver truck and he was absolutely furious that it came out better than his hand sanding ever did. He called me that night just to complain that he'd been wasting hours of his life for like a decade. Took him a solid month to admit the old way wasn't better, just different.

Ngl, I've been that guy too. Clinging to old habits is rough.
