Old school lead work vs modern panel bonding, 20 years apart

Back in 2002 I learned to weld in every seam and use lead to smooth things out. My mentor swore by it, said filler was for hacks. Now I mostly use structural adhesives and panel bond on quarter panels and rockers, way less heat distortion. The change came around 2015 when I got a 2010 Honda Civic that was too thin for my usual tricks, and the glue held up better than any weld I did. Do you guys still keep a torch and lead setup around, or is that just museum stuff now?
