Stretching seemed pointless until a back injury proved me wrong
I always thought stretching was a waste of time before getting into the shop. Then recently, I tweaked my back moving a bumper and was out for two days. My buddy showed me some simple warm-up moves he does every morning. Now I do them without fail, and I haven't had any issues since. It's crazy how a small habit can make such a big difference.

My physical therapist got me doing 10 minutes every morning after I threw out my back lifting a transmission. She said it's not about being flexible, it's about telling your muscles what they're about to do all day (which makes total sense now). Those basic cat-cow moves and hamstring stretches changed everything. The key is doing it daily, even when you feel fine, because that's when it actually prevents the next tweak. It feels silly until you realize you haven't thought about your back pain in months.

My old yoga teacher called it "greasing the groove" for your joints. That daily habit really is the difference between just coping and actually staying ahead of the pain.

How bad did your back hurt when you tweaked it? I had a similar wake up call a few years ago and it's wild how fast you change your mind. That daily habit is everything, you're totally right. It feels like such a chore until you realize you're not in pain anymore.
