Changed my mind about using impact guns on lug nuts after a guy at the shop showed me his torque wrench readings

I always figured an impact gun cranked down to max was fine for lug nuts, quick and easy. Then this older mechanic at the shop next door let me borrow his torque wrench and checked a wheel I had just done. Three of the five nuts were way over spec like 150 ft-lbs instead of 100. That convinced me to switch to hand torquing every time now. Has anyone else had a close call with overtightened wheels?

Man that's exactly what happened to me last year, I had a wheel stud snap off on the highway because I got lazy with the impact gun and thought "good enough" was fine.

Did you torque it down later or just run it like that? Wondering if you caught it before it got worse.
