My mechanic mentioned my extended warranty had a waiting period I never caught, and it cost me $1,200
I was at my guy Ray's shop in Columbus getting an oil change on my 2018 Civic when he asked if I ever read the fine print on my extended warranty. I shrugged and said I skimmed it, and he laughed and pulled up the contract on his tablet. Turns out mine had a 30 day and 1,000 mile waiting period before any claim would even count, and I bought it on a Friday and tried to use it the next Monday when my AC compressor went out. Ray said he sees this all the time with folks who buy the plan at the dealer and assume coverage starts that minute. That $1,200 repair came straight out of my pocket and the warranty folks just said sorry, not active yet. I ended up calling the company and they confirmed it in writing, so there was no wiggle room at all. Now I want to know if other plans have the same kind of clause, or if some let you skip the wait if you pay extra.
