A loose cannon plug on a King Air in Wichita almost cost me my cert, check your safety wire
Two weeks ago I was finishing up a pitot static check on a King Air 200 at an FBO in Wichita and I bumped a cannon plug behind the panel that felt way too loose. I grabbed the connector and the safety wire was gone, just twisted around nothing, so I pulled the maintenance logs and found it had been signed off as secured three flights earlier. I grounded the plane right there, told the chief pilot we weren't moving until I re-terminated and safetied every plug in that harness, and he was not happy about the delay. Turned out two more plugs behind the radio stack had the same issue, all from the same lazy job. Has anyone else seen a whole harness get pencil-whipped like that, and how do you usually handle it when the signoff says one thing but the hardware says another?
That "twisted around nothing" part is what gets me. Safety wire that's been wrapped but isn't actually through the hole does happen and it's not always a guy being lazy, sometimes it's a rushed job at the end of a long shift and it gets missed. I'm not saying that makes it fine, but grounding the plane and pulling every plug in the harness over it feels like a lot for something you caught on the ground during a check. The logs being wrong is a real problem though, that part I wouldn't let slide.
