Fiber optic vs copper on a King Air 200 install last month
I did a fiber optic run on a King Air 200 and a copper run on another plane a week later. The fiber was way faster to terminate and weighed almost nothing, but the copper was easier to troubleshoot when a connector got loose. Anyone else think fiber is the way forward even with the learning curve?

That 50 pound weight savings on a King Air install is no joke, especially when you're already packed to the gills. I remember my first fiber termination took me twice as long as copper because I was scared of breaking the connector, but once you get the hang of it, it's way faster. Did you run into any issues with the fiber bending around tight corners in the panel, or did you use a specific boot to protect it?

On my last fiber install I used a spiral wrap boot around the tight bends near the avionics rack and it kept everything clean. Totally agree once you get past the first couple terminations it feels way smoother than copper.
