My multimeter caught a comms glitch the computer said was fine

During a pre-flight, the avionics screen showed all clear but the pilot reported static on the radio. I metered the antenna line and found a broken shield, which the software missed completely. Are we forgetting how to do real troubleshooting?

I've totally been there, trusting the screen until it bites me. @andrewb47 is spot on about basic checks. My own multimeter has saved me from my own stupidity more times than I care to admit.

Seen this everywhere now. People just trust the screen without a second thought. Basic checks are becoming a lost art.

Yeah that thing about "trusting the screen" is everywhere. I just read about a bunch of self-checkout errors where the screen said one price but the store's system charged another. People just bagged it and paid. Or my buddy's smart thermostat kept saying his place was 70 degrees while he was freezing, he finally just checked a real thermometer. The screen isn't always the final word.
