Cottonwood Pass on the JMT got 4x busier since the 2019 sign went up
I hiked it again last Tuesday and counted 23 day hikers before 10am, where 5 years ago I saw maybe 4 total, so what's pulling everyone in now, is it the AllTrails badge or something?

Think the 2019 sign is only part of it. AllTrails badges definitely pull people in, but I’ve also seen way more social media posts about that specific stretch lately. The real kicker is the parking lot got paved in 2021, so it went from a rough dirt pull-off to a proper trailhead. That alone probably tripled the casual hikers. Are you seeing more overnighters too, or is it mostly the day crowd?
