Learned the hard way about water crossings on the High Sierra Trail last summer

I figured a creek crossing was just a creek crossing until I hit Whitney Creek in July. The water was waist high and moving fast, totally different from the calm stream it was on the map. Two hours later my sleeping bag was soaked because I didn't pack a dry bag for my quilt. Has anyone else had a river crossing catch them off guard like that?

Dry bag's a lifesaver. Learned that one quick too.
